AD Project drop-in event
Posted 8 January 2010
Residents of Edgmond, Newport and the surrounding areas are being offered a chance to learn about multi-million pound plans for a renewable energy system at Harper Adams University College.
An informal drop-in event is being hosted by the University College at Edgmond Village Hall on Wednesday, January 13, from 3.30pm to 7.30pm, when a team of experts will be on hand to explain how the proposed anaerobic digestion system will work.
Harper Adams Estates Manager Paul Moran said: “Our plans are being developed and we are now commencing the planning application process for the AD unit. This is a very promising development.
“We have already calculated that it could offset the University College’s carbon emissions more than three times over, and it will create jobs and provide an opportunity to share knowledge of this farm diversification technology with everyone from farmers to primary school children.
“That learning can start next week at the drop-in event. We’ve been working on these plans for some time, so it’s exciting to now have a chance to share them with the community.”
The anaerobic digester at Harper Adams, in Edgmond, will generate heat and power from farm and food waste. The University College was one of just three successful English Higher Education institutions when, back in June, it won £3 million towards the project from the Revolving Green Fund, set up by the Higher Education Funding Council for England and Salix Finance.
